Political Tech Review: Hungarian Elections 2026
Hungary's 2026 election achieved a record turnout of 79.5%, yet AI-generated advertising and disinformation campaigns reached unprecedented levels throughout the race. Tisza's party won with 141 seats (53.18%), ending Orbán's 16-year tenure as Prime Minister.
While foreign interference drew international concern, approximately 90% of disinformation originated from domestic sources. The ruling party deployed AI-generated video content across social media platforms, including paid advertising campaigns.Fabricated policy documents were created and distributed through both news outlets and traditional campaign materials. Hungary lacked comprehensive national regulations governing AI use in elections.
Despite extensive disinformation efforts, Magyar's victory indicates that voter engagement and economic concerns superseded digital manipulation tactics.
This webinar will examine how AI-driven campaigns, coordinated inauthentic behavior, and regulatory gaps influenced one of Europe's most closely watched elections, and what it demonstrates about the evolving nature of political communication.
